What is artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence by computer systems. AI systems are designed to perform tasks that typically require human cognition, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation.
Types of AI
- Narrow AI (Weak AI): Designed for a specific task, like image recognition or language translation. All current AI systems are narrow AI.
- General AI (Strong AI): Hypothetical AI with human-level cognitive abilities across all domains. Does not yet exist.
- Machine learning: A subset of AI where systems learn from data without being explicitly programmed
- Deep learning: A subset of machine learning using neural networks with many layers
AI applications
AI powers search engines, recommendation systems, voice assistants, autonomous vehicles, medical diagnosis, content generation, and cybersecurity threat detection.
